Low average incomes in Bankstown is reflected in smaller and lower quality accommodation. Over time this may change providsing long-term returns but in the short to medium term, prices are likely to be less than state averages. It is more a matter of what can be afforded rather than what would we prefer, leading to slower price increases over time. Lower than average population density constrains growth in Bankstown to an extent. However, where buyers are willing to compromise on housing and lifestyle choice, there are affordable options. Lower than average industry presence in Bankstown we believe will be less of a negative impact than it has in the past. Post-COVID and the growth in working from home has lessened the demand for local employment options. This may make Bankstown a better buying opportunity than it may have been in the past.
Bankstown is a suburb of Sydney, New South Wales. Located just a short distance south-west of the central business district, it is not far at all from the vibrant, energetic heart of the city. Found within the local government area of the City of Canterbury-Bankstown, the area was first settled by Europeans in 1795 under the orders of Governor John Hunter. Bankstown played a significant part in both the Australian and American war effort throughout World War II, and is home to the Bankstown Bunker, a significant RAAF HQ building that saw use between 1945 and 1947. After the war, Bankstown saw a surge in population, as people left the city centre for a calmer life.
Despite being just a stone’s throw from the centre of Sydney, Bankstown has a much more relaxed style of life compared to the bustle of the city centre; however, its close proximity provides easy access to the thrills and conveniences of urban life. There are a number of high-performing educational institutes within the suburb, along with several major parks and beauty spots, a library and a number of places of worship. All in all, Bankstown is a beautiful, affordable place to live, just 9km from the coast and just 16km from central Sydney.
