Eastgardens is a suburb located east of central Sydney. A relatively new suburb, Eastgardens was founded in the late 1980s from parts of neighbouring suburbs Hillsdale and Pagewood. The suburb, which is just 9 kilometers from the heart of Sydney's central business district, is much smaller than its neighbours and derives its name from a large shopping centre, Westfield Eastgardens, located in the suburb. Eastgardens' other neighbours include Banksmeadow and Maroubra, which is in turn bordered by Maroubra Beach, a popular surfing and leisure beach.
Eastgardens is a sought-after place to own property, due in part to its proximity and convenient connections to both the centre of Australia's most populous city and some of its most beautiful beaches, via buses or trains which run from the shopping centre or by road. While the suburb is for the most part too small for amenities such as schools of its own, the neighbouring suburbs' contrasting scale provide plenty of readily-accessible facilities. All in all, Eastgardens is a beautiful island of Australian suburbia right in the core of the city, comprising modern housing and plenty of green spaces.
