Found to the East of central Sydney, Maroubra is a relatively populous suburb, and the largest by area in its Local Government Area of the City of Randwick. The name ‘Maroubra’ is an aboriginal roughly translating to ‘Place of Thunder’. The suburb saw rapid urban development in the 1910s after being redivided into small residential lots. The suburb is primarily residential, however to the south of the municipality is South Maroubra Shopping Village, featuring outlets for a number of large retailers. Maroubra has a rich culture, being represented by a number of well-known sports teams; the suburb is particularly well known for the surfing events that regularly occur off the shores of Maroubra Beach.
Maroubra is just 10 kilometres from the Central Business District of Sydney, and is well-serviced by a number of major roads, allowing expedient travel to and from the bustling city centre. The suburb is also connected to both Central Sydney and many of the other suburbs that skirt the city’s heart by the CBD and South East Light Rail, along with regular bus services; these transport links along with the relative proximity to the centre of Sydney make the suburb a sought-after locality for commuters. Maroubra is a beautiful seaside suburb with a bright future and is a brilliant place live or own property.
