Woolgoolga has two beautiful beaches, Woolgoolga Back Beach and Hearnes Lake beach, both of which feature stunning Pacific seafronts. The town was first officially gazetted in 1888 under the name ‘Woogoolga’, a corruption of ‘Wiilgulga’, a term used by the Gumbaynggirr Aboriginal people to describe the region – a name which would later be altered slightly in 1966 to its current form.
