With a population of almost 7000 residents, Cootamundra stands proudly on the expansive plains of the South West Slopes. The town was officially designated as a municipality in 1884, although settlements have been present in the area for much longer. Cootamundra is perhaps best known as the birthplace of cricket legend Sir Donald Bradman – a man widely regarded as the greatest batsman of all time – and a museum surrounding Bradman and the history of cricket is now situated in the cottage where he was born, on Adams Street. The town is situated along the Olympic Highway, a road so named in 1963 after it formed part of the journey the Olympic Torch took as it made its way from Cowra to Albury for the 1956 Olympic Games.
